The male world was rocked to its molten testosterone core last week when Brady announced he would be the frontman for UGGs’ line of men’s boots, accessories and apparel.

Fakes in fashion is well-worn territory, but when it comes to UGG boots, the line between “counterfeiters” and competition is where it really gets woolly

The boot on the left is an authentic Australian-made sheepskin boot. Production-wise, it’s exemplary (quality local sheepskin, reinforced seams, double sole, capped toe), but draw your own conclusions as to the liberties they’ve taken with the label. When it comes to identifying a Deckers UGG Australia boot (right), here’s what to look for:

THE HEIGHT: The UGG Australia Classic boots come in short (midcalf) and tall versions. Any variation on these heights are not genuine UGG boots.

THE LOGO: A genuine UGG has the registered trademark symbol ® next to its logo on the label.

THE TAG: UGG Australia does not have hang tags on the sides of its boots.

THE SKIN: UGG boots are made from one piece of quality twin-faced (that’s skin on one side, fluffy fleece on the other) sheepskin. Some fakes use synthetic “fleece” glued to pieces of suede or cheaper cowhide.

THE ORIGIN: Deckers’ UGG boots are made in China, so if the label says “Made in Australia,” it is not an UGG.

THE FIT: UGG boots are made large, so you should require a size smaller than usual.

THE SOLE: The UGG boot sole is one solid reinforced piece, about half an inch thick, flexible but firm, and has the logo embossed on the bottom.

I've posted only four of the six models below, because the other pictures didn't download properly. (I'm surprised UGG® Australia didn't send us a press release!) Nicky Hilton's Jimmy Choo UGGs®

Back in January, Jimmy Choo announced they were offering the solution for women who opt for comfort over fashion - with their version of the Ugg® boot.

The hot new collection is launching in October but it looks as though heiress Nicky Hilton [The younger sister of Paris.] has let the Ugg® out of the bag - and posted a picture of her much coveted new pair on Twitter.

Black, with fringe detailing and embellished stars - the classic mark of a Choo - the boots, nicknamed CHUGG, comes in five styles of varying colours.

Nicky, clearly enamored, posted [on Twitter] last night: Love my new Jimmy Choo Uggs'®.

It won't be long before sister Paris finds out and with the Hilton sisters as fans, the boot is sure to be a hit.

But with a [£495-]£695 [$626-$879] price tag, not everyone can afford to keep warm in style.

The sheepskin boots will be available in an exclusive limited distribution, only at Jimmy Choo, UGG® Australia shops, online and at a selection of department stores.

PETA Wants UGGs Removed From Miss Universe Pageant

We recently did a post about Australia's Miss Universe contestant's national costume, which features a pair of high heeled UGG style boots, well according to The Daily Mail, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) asked Jesinta Campbell not to wear UGG boots at the pageant in Las Vegas on August 23, because it was cruel and unethical to use Australian wool sourced from mulesed sheep, which is a common practice among Australian farmers, that involves removing strips of wool-bearing skin from the buttocks of sheep in a bid to reduce a potentially lethal maggot infestation called flystrike.

But the wool from UGG boots is usually obtained after the sheep are (Umm, I'm looking for a more politically correct word for killed.) sacrificed for their meat, so as long as you believe animals were, in part, put on this earth for humans to eat, then it's more than okay to wear UGG boots.

Australia's Miss Universe Contestant in High Heeled UGGs?

There seems to be a lot of fuss over Australia's Miss Universe contestant's national costume, which features a pair of high heeled UGG style boots. They look similar to UGG Australia's Joslyn UGG boots, but I don't the beautiful Jesinta is wearing those in the video. And UGG Australia is an American company. She wouldn't wear their boots to the Miss Universe pageant would she? Plus, they would probably sue her despite the free positive publicity and marketing. Lol. (Did everybody catch the inside joke?) I've actually never seen UGGs® on the show. They must wear them to keep their feet warm when the their feet aren't in the shot. I wonder if it's Leighton and Blake's idea to wear UGGs®, or are the UGGs® provided by the show. That would be a great idea for I Got UGGs®! to provide UGGs® to celebrities on television and movie sets!
