UGGs Cause Ankle Sprains and Athlete's "Fungus" Foot?

[A recent article in The Sun claims] the soft structure and heel-less sole [in UGGs] is said to increase the risk of ankle sprains and bad posture. And they create a breeding ground for fungi that cause foot infections."

[And] podiatrist Linda Hawkins, of Lee, South London, said: “Sheepskin boots, like other footwear without heel and sole support, are only suitable for short-term wear.

“Use all day leads to the boot structure breaking down, increasing the risk of a twisted ankle.”

[Furthermore] Pharmacist Hasan Ukra, who works in the flagship Boots store in London’s Oxford Street, said: “Wearing these kind of boots could increase the risk of fungal infections due to the moist environment created.

“And I’ve seen a marked rise in ankle sprains due to the soft and comfortable nature of the boots.”

So, the questions are - have any of you guys experienced a sudden increase in ankle sprains while wearing UGG boots or a sudden increase in fungus growth on your toes?

Thanks for the link B!

LOL!! NO! what are they talking about?? I'm sorry, but as long you don't wear them barefoot in REALLY hot weather then you're not gonna get foot fungus..you might get a twisted ankle from ugg boots, but most likely if you buy the cheaper ones (the ones that tend to get deformed heels)

My feet smell after I take off my uggs so theres some truth there.

I have weak ankles due to several previous ankle sprains. I've never turned or sprained my ankles in uggs. They're completely flat and wide on the bottom, which makes them pretty near impossible to cause sprains.

I haven't noticed bad posture, but I have noticed that I walk slower when I wear my uggs. It could be that my uggs are a bit too big and they slide around a little. My uggs also don't smell bad. I always wear them bear-footed.

I have never had any sprains wearing them but there is a LOT of truth to the fungus thing. People don't notice it because they think fungus is going to be some noticeably gross smelly thing but it's not--the fungus caused by uggs will usually be athletes foot which doesnt both most people unless you pick at it. Almost all people who wear uggs have it and just don't notice. An easy cure--buy some tea tree oil at your local health food store and take a cotton ball and rub some in between your toes every night--its 100% safe and antifingul and NEVER wear them bare-footed thats just DISGUSTING
