Upper West Side Cleaners Cleans Your UGGs

We've had a number of posts on how to clean UGGs, but the article below is about a New York City Upper West Side dry cleaners that will clean your UGG boots for you. Eventually, I'm going to take a pair of UGGs there to be cleaned and show a before and after video.

By Serena Solomon DNAinfo Reporter/Producer UPPER WEST SIDE —

Those slushy winter streets are kicking up a new source of income to Upper West Side dry cleaners — Ugg Boots.

"We are seeing hundreds a month," said Bruce Barish, owner of the Bronx-based Ernst Winzer Cleaners, which services the sheepskin footwear for neighborhood dry cleaners.

"They are unbelievably popular."

The comfortable import from Australia is the must-have footwear this winter and many copycats have followed the Ugg brand.

One store, 67 French Cleaners on 67th and Amsterdam, told DNAinfo it would cost the fashion crowd $40 to clean a low Ugg boot and $50 for a high pair.

Central Park West Dry Cleaners are under cutting that price and said they could take care of the mess starting from $28.

Barish said the pastel-colored Uggs are the hardest to clean, but assured wearers it is only in rare cases that they can't get the job done.

Still, despite having teenage daughters and the cashflow from cleaning the boots, Barish remains perplexed about the popularity.

"I used to joke that the name Ugg came from ugly," he said.

Too bad there aren't any places in TX that do that. (that i know of) i take good care of my Ugg collection anyway, not much i can't clean with just the Ugg cleaner, and the same Bed Head shampoo i use on my hair to wash the fleece and insoles.
